Parenting Burnout:What a Fallen Tree Taught Me About seeking support

Recently, a tree fell in my backyard.
It looked strong—tall, with new leaves budding, and alive with hope in this new season. My husband and I had worked hard to care for the lawn around it, growing thick, healthy grass. But the ground was soft from rain, and the wind that day was strong.
What we didn’t see was that, below the surface, the tree’s root system was weak. It had roots, yes—but many were hollow. Though it had produced leaves and seedlings for years, it had been silently battling the elements. One big puff of wind was all it took to reveal the truth.
As parents and professionals working with children, we often function just like that tree.
We appear strong. We show up. We nurture. We produce good things. But underneath, many of us are emotionally burned out, with shallow roots, decaying in the inside—worn down by stress, trauma, and the overwhelming need to “get it right.” We provide shade for others while quietly ignoring our own needs.
And when we fall? We don’t fall alone. We risk bringing down everything we’ve worked so hard to grow—our child’s emotional well-being, our relationships, and our own sense of purpose.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Seeking parenting support isn’t selfish—it’s life-giving. Through coaching, self-care, and trauma-informed parenting tools, you can strengthen your roots. You’ll learn how to respond instead of react, handle challenging child behavior, and nurture your own inner peace.
Because when parents heal, families flourish. And when your root system is healthy and grounded, no storm can take you down.
